Mr. Josh Ego is a first year history teacher here in Umatilla High School. He has been coaching Cross Country in Umatilla for seven years as well as helping coordinate the after school program.

Mr. Ego always wanted to teach here full time. Three weeks before school started he was surprised with the position. The news caught Ego by surprise but he was excited nonetheless. He went from coaching the cross country team to teaching those same runners history.

He fell in love with the drive the students had here. “Umatilla kids are hardworking and have a certain grit to them,” Mr. Ego explained.

He knew some kids from his coaching and after school program, so he didn’t walk into unknown territory.

“He expects great things from you,” UHS junior Trey Dohman said about Ego. Dohman is a Cross Country and Track runner who has been coached by Ego.

Ego learned about teaching opportunities by going to meetings and talking to his colleagues who worked in the district. Mr. Ego finally got the news he was going to teach here a week before school started.

“Still learning, but excited to work here,” Mr. Ego said about the his first weeks at the school.
